Product Description Cold Steel Sjambok 54" Black, In Africa, the Sjambok (Sham-Bawk) is a cattle prod, a whip, a riding crop and a means of self protection. Unlike most western style whips, the Sjambok is not plaited from thin leather strips. Instead, it is carved whole out of Hippopotamus hide. Its considerable reach, lightning speed and devastating impact have built it quite a reputation as a sure defense against deadly snakes. The Cold Steel synthetic Sjambok hits just as hard as one that is made out of the traditional Hippo hide. It was designed with input from Peter Mueller. It's 25% heavier than the earlier model and features a much softer, more comfortable Kraton handle and made to resemble braided leather. This bigger, thicker handle, when combined with the heavier, beefier lash allows the Sjambok to be swung with even greater power and control making it a must have whip for city people and country dwellers alike. Specifications: - Weight: 14.2 oz - Handle: 10 1/4" long. - Tip: 1/2" - Overall: 54" - Material: Kraton handle w/extruded black plastic lash, Mfg No: 95SLB, Manufacturer: Cold Steel, Warranty: Cold Steel stands behind their knives 100%. The fixed blade sheath knives have a five-year warranty to the original owner against defects in materials or workmanship. The folding knives are warranted for one year.

Cold Steel Sjambok April 24, 2010 C. Mosso (PA) Probably would be deadly on snakes and the like. More "whiplike" than expected. I suspect it would be painfully effective as a defensive anti-personnel weapon, a task I'll continue to assign to "Drastic Plastic", Mr. Glock.
Whip April 14, 2010 David J. Gell (LaGrange, GA) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I doubt I'll get any use out of this thing.
The only possible use for it is as a weapon.
You might carry it when you're out walking your dog.
Other than that ... ?
fend off wolf packs (not), March 21, 2010 Bartok Kinski (Prague) 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought this to fend off wolf packs when I walk in the wilderness. Once, I was attacked and couldn't use this so I was severely bitten several times before a passerby scared the wolves with a loud horn. It's not very good for fast attacking animals which are highly mobile and work in groups. Might be good for snakes or rabid skunks, but not much bigger. Probably worthless against an elephant.
Great tool, great toy! January 9, 2010 Thornhaven 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This has been a great tool/toy for my 16 year old son. He uses it as a tool when herding the cattle from the summer to winter pastures, and as a trainer for teaching swordsmanship to his younger brothers. It has proven useful as a make-shift machete against invading branches and vines that need to be cleared off the electric fence, as well.
